Taiwan To Invest Huge on Dassault Aviation Mirages: Spares and Missile Components
Taiwan is all set to make a huge expenditure of NT$10.2 billion ($329 million) in order to procure the necessary spares for the engines that power the Dassault Aviation Mirage 2000-5 fighters. The funds are largely associated with the Mirage 2000-5 fleet, as reported by the Focus Taiwan news channel.
Safran – The Supplier of M53 Engines
Safran, has been selected by Taiwan to supply the essential spares for engine, beginning from 2024 to 2028. Moreover, the procurement shall also extend to the parts and components required for the air-to-air missiles like the MICA and R.550 Magic that are installed on the Mirages.
Complete Assessment and Upgrade of Nine Mirages
In August last year, Taiwan had commissioned Dassault for the assessment of upgrade required for nine Mirage 2000-5s. A total of NT$150 million has been reserved for the project that is expected to be completed by July 2026. Taiwan’s air force possesses 56 Mirage 2000-5s out of which six have been lost due to accidents.
Taiwan’s Provides Clarification on Mirage Sustainment Issues
The defence ministry of Taiwan had cleared the air on the rumours related to Mirage’s fleet sustainment in the month of June last year. As per the ministry, the fleet’s availability rate as well as “mission capable “ rate was satisfactory despite the regular backlash that Taiwan faces from Beijing for receiving defence support from Paris.
